Dubai, UAE –7 February 2024: Tashkeel, a leading UAE-based art and design incubator, presents "Summits of Solitude: Narratives in Nature," a solo exhibition by Ji-Hye Kim, a Korean artist based in the UAE and a graduate of Tashkeel's Critical Practice Programme.

As part of Tashkeel's 2024 Winter Season, this exhibition is Kim's first solo presentation in Dubai, capturing the vibrancy and texture of the natural world through diverse printmaking techniques.

"Summits of Solitude: Narratives in Nature" is an installation depicting the grandeur of mountains while creating a visual odyssey traversing the strata of time and memory. It delivers immersive, 360-degree experiences, transforming visitors from passive spectators into active co-creators. This engagement encourages contribution and blurs the lines between viewer and artist, inviting all to share the journey of artistic creation. Delving into the symbolic strength of mountains, juxtaposing their enduring facade with the fragile, intricate layers beneath the surface, Kim's installation serves as an intimate dialogue with mountainous environments.

Kim, a graduate of Hongik University, Seoul, and recipient of an MA from Camberwell College, London, lives in the UAE since 2007. Her artwork, shortlisted for the Emirati Futurism Award - Fine Art, has been featured in various solo and group exhibitions across the UAE. She is the 18th practitioner to complete Tashkeel's Critical Practice Programme (CPP), where she was mentored by Dubai-based artist and academic Isaac Sullivan.

Commenting on the exhibition, Kim said, "In 'Summits of Solitude: Narratives in Nature,' I aimed to forge a profound connection between viewers and the intricate stories embedded within mountains. Tashkeel has provided an invaluable platform, allowing me to explore the diverse landscapes of the UAE, South Korea, South Africa, the UK, and Jordan. The exhibition delves into the layered essence of mountains, symbolising the complexities of individual narratives. Tashkeel's support has been instrumental in my artistic journey, fostering an environment where nature, self-identity, and the transformative power of art converge."

In addition to artist-led tours of the work on select days and a series of workshops, visitors will be invited to engage in conversation with the artist at a special event on Wednesday, February 29, from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm.
